Initial Visit Expectations

It is normal to be somewhat anxious going to the doctor, moreso the surgeon. We will do everything we can to make your visit as pleasant as possible, and limit your waiting time for the examination. Having a basic understanding of why you are seeing us is helpful. Please review our website for useful information about your condition, and write down any questions that you or your family have prior to your initial visit.

In order for us to properly evaluate and treat your condition or injury, we need to have a comprehensive understanding of your current issue as well as any other existing medical problems and/or previous surgeries. Please be certain that your referring physician provides us with any pertinent information and that you complete any necessary paperwork in this regard. To assure that we have this information it is best that you hand carry any diagnostic studies e.g. CT Scans or MRIs with you. If your imaging studies were performed at any of the Baptist Health System facilities in Montgomery or Prattville, we can access the images online. If we do not have all of your relevant medical records and images at the time of your visit, your appointment may need to be rescheduled. Please also have your updated insurance information and any required copay.

Please download, print and complete the New Patient Visit Forms prior to your visit. Please answer all of the questions, including all of your medications and dosage. Please include the first and last name of your referring physician and/or primary care physician, as well as the city where they practice. Completing all of this information before your visit will expedite the registration process.

Upon arrival at our office, please register at the front desk, where the completion of all appropriate forms will be verified, and where you will be asked for personal and insurance information. You will also be asked to review and sign a Healthcare Proxy form.

Once registration is complete, you will be escorted to the first available exam room. You may be asked to undress and change into a disposable gown and shorts. One of our physicians or PAs will review your medical history, imaging studies, and perform a physical examination. The physician will then meet with you and your family to give an explanation of your condition and possible non-surgical and surgical treatment options for your particular diagnosis. We frequently also obtain additional x-rays in the office.

It will take approximately two hours to complete your initial visit. This time may be longer depending on the amount of medical records, imaging studies, and the complexity of care required.
