Conditions Treated: Neck Pain

Neck Pain

As with lower back pain, neck pain is a common symptom and may be caused by damage to or irritation of any of the complex structures within the cervical spine. Fortunately most episodes of neck pain usually resolve with minimal activity, limited bed rest, and over-the-counter medications. Neck pain can be caused by obvious trauma such as sprains and strains, whiplash injury, and multiple other possible causes including postural difficulties, degenerative disc disease (DDD), disc herniations and spinal stenosis, inflammatory diseases and arthritis, infection, mechanical disorders, congenital disorders, osteoporosis and circulatory disorders. Tumors are also a rare cause of neck pain.

Evaluation and Diagnosis

During your initial office evaluation one of our physicians will complete your History and Physical examination, review any available diagnostic studies, decide what further tests need to be performed including office x-rays, and we will discuss possible treatment options with you regarding your individual diagnosis.

Treatment Options

Surgery is rarely recommended as the initial treatment for most spine problems.
